Beit Jala Besieged

The historic Palestinian Christian village of Beit Jala is on a hilltop between Bethlehem and the Israeli settlement of Gilo which is built on land occupied in 1967. During the intifadeh in 1991, the Israeli forces blasted holes through the homes and buildings of Beit Jala. The piece incorporates shards of a broken vase from the floor of Beit Jala’s Youth Center.
